At 96 years old, Dr. Michael Okunieff fulfilled his life-long dream of moving to the Holy Land. After serving as a physician for 67 years, he left his Chicago home to join his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in Israel.
Dr. Okunieff is no ordinary Oleh. Born in Lithuania, he joined the United Partisan Organization at age 18. He spent the next few years risking his life to save as many Jews as he could from the horrors of the Holocaust and is perhaps one of the last partisans alive today.
